Transport

Getting to/from the Airport

For those fortunate enough to be traveling with a group of friends, taking a taxi to the city is probably the most convenient option. For those who are traveling alone, the SkyBus is the way to go. The 24/7 service runs every 10 minutes, and will take you directly to Southern Cross Station right in the heart of Melbourne CBD. Feel free to take advantage of their complimentary hotel drop off service, no advance bookings required. A one way fare will put you out of pocket $18 and a return fare $30. The pick up from your hotel must be pre-booked the day before at the hotel front desk.

Getting around during the tournament

A dedicated fleet of buses from Melbourne’s premier party bus company will be provided for all transport to and from Monash University. Most of our socials are centrally located and within walking distance of both hotels. Please refer to the socials page for further information.

Taxis

You can book a taxi by calling 13 Cabs (13 2227), hailing one on the street or at cab stands throughout the city. All taxis in Melbourne are painted yellow and can seat up to four people. There are new penalties for carrying open alcohol in a taxi so do be careful, drivers can request prepayment of a fare after 10pm (generally only if you’re looking pretty rowdy)

Fares

Flagfall is $3.20 plus $1.60 per km ($1.90 after midnight).
A trip from the hotels to the San Remo Ballroom (Championship dinner) is only $15.00.
A trip from the hotel to Monash Clayton¬† is at least $45.00 (don’t miss the bus!).
A trip from the hotel to any of the finals venue will get you kicked out of the cab.

Public Transport

It is unlikely that the need to use public transport will arise, but if it should, our ever so reliable Myki ticketing system is there for you! A Myki will need to be purchased at a cost of approximately $6 and then topped up with sufficient credit at any Metropolitan train station, select tram stops or the nearest 7/11 store. Remember to touch on and touch off every time you use public transport in order to get the lowest fare.
